OpenAI released it on October 26, 2026.
What is GPT-6.1 Terra?
GPT-6.1 Terra is an OpenAI model released on October 26, 2026, according to OpenAI's launch post. It is available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Developers call it with the model id gpt-6.1-terra.
OpenAI reports these results, all from its own testing:
- On Agents' Last Exam, which covers professional tasks such as forms and technical drawings, Terra at medium reasoning effort scores 15 percentage points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra at about one third of the cost.
- On an internal factual-error benchmark at low reasoning effort, the error rate fell from 53.6% to 16.7%. At maximum effort it was 4.3%.
- On Terminal-Bench 4.0 at maximum effort, Terra solves 50.3% of tasks. OpenAI lists 21.5% as the published score for GPT-5.6 Terra.
How much does GPT-6.1 Terra cost?
GPT-6.1 Terra costs $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens at standard API rates, per OpenAI's launch post and its API pricing page as of October 27, 2026. Cached input costs $0.05 per million tokens.
OpenAI says these standard prices are 50% lower than GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. The pricing table figures are for short context.
What can GPT-6.1 Terra do with tools and long inputs?
The OpenAI model page lists a context window of 1,050,000 input tokens and a maximum output of 128,000 tokens, as of October 27, 2026.
The same page lists computer use, web search, file search, code interpreter and MCP as tools for GPT-6.1 Terra in the Responses API. Tool calling requires the Responses API.
What this means for you
OpenAI built GPT-6.1 Terra for everyday work such as forms, drafts and screen tasks. If you pay for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Enterprise or Edu, you can try it in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Developers can call gpt-6.1-terra in the API.
Test the claimed drop in factual errors on your own tasks, especially drafts and forms. Every benchmark figure above is OpenAI's own result, and the pricing table covers short context only.
How we checked: on October 27, 2026 we read OpenAI's launch post, model page and pricing page. We did not reproduce any benchmark.
